September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We honour and remember those who were so deeply impacted.

This year, we invited Elder Alex Nelson, to join us and share his story of his time at the now demolished St. Michaels Residential School in Alert Bay, B.C. Alex is a member of the Musgamagw – Tsawatainuek tribes. He shed light on his past and hope for the future. He illustrated how sports, specifically soccer, helped him get through that period of his life.

Alex was one of the founders of the Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Association of British Columbia and the first chairperson and three-time president of the North American Indigenous Games.

PISE acquired the logo art from the first Indigenous Games and a second sister-piece from that artist. We gifted Alex the sister piece to add to his collection.
